Adina Crainiceanu is a teaching professor in the Department of Computer Science whose research interests lie at the intersection of databases and distributed systems, with a focus on optimizing information retrieval within complex, decentralized systems.

Crainiceanu’s commitment to excellence in education, research, and service has been recognized with several awards, including the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award, and Computer Science Department nominations for the United States Naval Academy (USNA) Class of 1951 Civilian Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in honor of Professor Theodore J. Benac, Class of 1951 Faculty Research Excellence Award, and Apgar Award for Excellence in Teaching.

She received her PhD in computer science from Cornell University. Before joining Johns Hopkins, Crainiceanu served as a professor and department chair in the Computer Science Department at the USNA, prior to which she gained valuable experience in academic and industry settings, in both the U.S. and Europe.
