Fifteen Johns Hopkins scientists—two of whom are faculty in the Whiting School of Engineering—are among 3,000 individuals included on the annual Highly Cited Researchers list compiled by Clarivate Analytics.

The list, which celebrates contemporary research achievement in 21 fields of the sciences and social sciences, is based on the number of citations for papers published between 2005 and 2015. The methodology included Essential Science Indicators to limit the disadvantage of recently-published papers relative to older ones, and to include early- and mid-career scientists who may have fewer papers published.

Hopkins had 13 researchers on the list last year and 14 in 2015.

The Highly Cited Researchers from the Whiting School are:

  • Steven Salzberg, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, and Biostatistics
  • Alexander Szalay, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor, the Alumni Centennial Professor of Astronomy, professor of Computer Science, and director of the Institute for Data Intensive Engineering and Science
