This CDROM is the first electronic publication of ACL proceedings in its 38 year conference history.

The volume contains the complete set of ACL-2000 publications, including the proceedings of all associated workshops, demonstration notes, tutorial abstracts, venue and sponsor information, and an archive of workshop web pages.

A combined author index for all of the proceedings is also included. This was generated automatically by a new software toolkit that also generated the HTML tables of contents, and the latex tables of contents and author indexes for each of the printed proceedings. I hope that this toolkit will significantly simplify production of printed proceedings, CDROMs and web pages in future years.

The design of this CDROM was a collaboration between myself and Silviu Cucerzan of Johns Hopkins University. Silviu crafted the preliminary page design and color scheme, and was extremely helpful in the final stages of the CDROM's creation. I am grateful for his assistance and highly professional artistic judgement.

The page-top banner images, all proceedings covers, the jewel case and CD face were designed and executed by Michaela Fok from Publishing Technology Center, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Her talented artistic work was central to the production of all ACL-2000 proceedings.

Samuel Harp and Zhao Jun of iSilk.com were both invaluable sources of support and logistical organization for all of the ACL-2000 publications.

I am deeply indebted to the members of the ACL Executive and ACL-2000 organizers who provided very significant advice, careful proofing and helpful feedback at all stages of the CDROM and proceedings production process. In particular I would like to thank K. Vijay-Shanker, Kathy McCoy, Priscilla Rasmussen, Wolfgang Wahlster, Hitoshi Iida, Nicoletta Calzolari, Eduard Hovy, Phil Cohen, as well as each of the individual workshop chairs.

Finally, I would like to thank Radu Florian, Grace Ngai and Alison Mackey for all of their help throughout the CDROM and proceedings production process.
