Local Information
|
Location: The Atlantic Oakes
With views of Frenchman Bay from every room, the Atlantic Oakes is located on Mount
Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park.
Mount Desert Island is among the most beautiful sites on the east
coast. A rare combination of mountains, sea, and islands provides
spectacular beauty and a wide variety of vacation activities. Acadia
National Park offers scenic driving, hiking, bicycling, swimming,
fishing, and boating.
The Atlantic Oakes is situated on 12 private, oceanfront acres, one
mile (a 20-minute walk) from the village of Bar Harbor and the
entrance to Acadia National Park. The Atlantic Oakes features 750
feet of waterfront on Frenchman Bay, with a pebble beach and private
pier. There are also five tennis courts (two lighted), an indoor
pool, and an outdoor pool.
Here's some more general information about
Bar Harbor.
Getting there
The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce maintains a web page with some
information on how to get to Bar Harbor.
Driving directions
The Atlantic Oakes has a web page with

From Ellsworth follow Rt. 3 into Bar Harbor. The Atlantic Oakes will
be on your left coming into town, immediately after the Ferry

typically in the low 50s (about 12 Celsius).
Tour of Acadia National Park
We expect to organize a 2½-hour bus tour of Acadia National
Park during SPAA 2000. The tour service is Acadia National Park Tours. At
this time, we expect the cost to be about $17 per person, and that the
tour would be either the afternoon of Tuesday, July 11 or Wednesday,
July 12. If fewer than 35 people sign up for the tour, we will have
to cancel.
