DESCRIPTION:Join us for an Inaugural Professorial Lecture honoring Mark Dredze\, John C. Malone Professor\, Computer Science\, Whiting School of Engineering. \n“What I’ve Learned (So Far) in 15 Years at Johns Hopkins”\nMark Dredze is grateful for the 15 years he has spent at Johns Hopkins—be it for incredible research opportunities\, mentoring gifted young minds\, teaching students who are shaping the future of technology\, working with brilliant colleagues\, or being part of a new revolution in artificial intelligence. In his lecture\, he will discuss what he has learned so far and why he thinks the best is yet to come. \nAbout Mark Dredze\nMark Dredze\, the John C. Malone Professor in the Department of Computer Science\, is a pioneer in developing artificial intelligence methods for language data. He utilizes natural language processing methods to extract\, organize\, and analyze information from text data. He is one of the founders of the field of web-based digital public health that applies these methods to mining social media and online text to derive new insights into human health behaviors\, to inform public health policy\, and to guide interventions. Furthermore\, he develops new clinical NLP methods for secondary use of medical data. \nNamed after the fifth dean of the Whiting School of Engineering\, the Don P. Giddens Inaugural Professorial Lecture Series was established in 1993 to honor newly promoted full professors and teaching professors.
