Suchi Saria, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, was installed as a John C. Malone Assistant Professor in a ceremony held on Thursday, April 26.

The John C. Malone Assistant Professorship was endowed by the generosity of John C. Malone ’64, ’69 to support outstanding Whiting School faculty members within the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare.

Saria joined Johns Hopkins in 2012. She holds joint appointments in statistics, biostatistics, and health policy. She is also the director of the Machine Learning and Healthcare Lab, and the founding research director of the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare.

Her research focuses on developing next generation diagnostic and treatment planning tools that leverage modern statistical and computational techniques to individualize care. Saria has received significant recognition for her work, including a Sloan Research Fellowship in 2018 and a DARPA Young Faculty Award in 2016. In 2017, she was named to MIT Tech Review‘s “35 Innovators Under 35,” and in 2016 she was among Popular Science‘s “Brilliant 10.”
