Matthew Green, an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and a member of the Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute, been chosen by the National Science Foundation for its prestigious CAREER Award, which recognizes early stage scholars with high levels of promise and excellence.

More than 95 percent of all email flowing through internet mail servers today is in a vulnerable, unencrypted form, despite the availability of the tools needed to make secure electronic mail a reality. Using this $500,000, five-year grant, Green will deepen our fundamental understanding of the design, architecture and implementation of secure messaging systems, and will examine the conflicting requirements created by the need for exceptional access mechanisms.
