Three Whiting School of Engineering researchers have made Thomson Reuters’ 2016 Highly Cited Researchers list, which recognizes the “world’s most influential scientific minds.” Researchers earn this distinction by writing papers that rank among the top 1 percent most-often cited in their field and year of publication. Inclusion on this list of research elite is considered a designation of exceptional impact.

Evan Ma, professor of materials science and engineering, Steven L. Salzberg, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of biomedical engineering, computer science and biostatistics, and Alexander Szalay, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of computer science, are among 13 Johns Hopkins faculty members included on this year’s list, which comprises 3,000 researchers annually.

This is the third year that all three researchers have made this prestigious list. Ma was cited in the materials sciences; Salzberg in computer science and microbiology; and Szalay in space science.
