SPAA 2008 Local Information

Conference Location

On Saturday and Sunday, SPAA 2008 will take place at the Main Campus of the Technische Universität München (TUM), Arcisstr. 21, 80333 Munich, and on Monday, SPAA 2008 will take place at the Leibniz Rechenzentrum (LRZ), Boltzmannstr. 1, 85748 Garching (at the Garching Campus of the TUM north of Munich, which is easily reachable via subway from the city center).

Visa Requests

If you need a visa to attend SPAA, please send your request for a letter in support of a visa application to Ashley Cozzi (acozzi@acm.org) at ACM headquarters, and include your name, mailing address, and fax number. Indicate that you plan to attend SPAA (authors of papers and brief announcements should also include the title).


Room Reservation

We have a number of rooms at various hotels in the city center of Munich that can be reserved at a special rate by participants of the SPAA conference:

The Hotel Königswache is directly next to the TUM and the other hotels next to the Munich Hauptbahnhof (Main Railway Station), which is about a 15 minute walk away from the TUM. There is a train from the Munich International Airport to the Main Railway Station of Munich (~40 minutes, ~10 Euros). The train is recommended since taxis are expensive.

The room reservation deadline was April 14. Please direct all requests concerning an existing reservation to t.dirr@interplan.de. If you cannot find alternative accommodation on the web (through hotels.com etc.), please contact Christian Scheideler at scheideler@in.tum.de, and we will try to help you out.

Travel

Munich is easily reachable via airplane and train. The nearest airport is the Munich International Airport, and the Munich Hauptbahnhof (Main Railway Station) is right in the center of Munich. There is a train from the Munich International Airport to the Main Railway Station of Munich (~40 minutes, ~10 Euros). The train is recommended since taxis are expensive. Trains operate every 10 minutes till midnight. Go here in order to look up general train schedules for Germany.

Activities

Munich Anniversary On June 14-15, Munich will celebrate its 850th anniversary with an artists market and lots of shows in the center of Munich. More information (in German) can be found here.
