Fall Term 2002
Christian Scheideler
Meetings
The first meeting will be on Wednesday, Sep 11, at 4 p.m. in NEB 325.
Topics
This seminar course reviews current research in theoretical computer science.
Students will read, present and discuss papers in weekly meetings.
Pre-req: permission of instructor. [Analysis]
Topic for this semester: will be discussed in first meeting
Possible options:
- Quantum computing
(quantum mechanics, quantum computer models, and quantum cryptography
and algorithms)
- Distributed data management
(dynamic distributed hashing, distributed caching, peer-to-peer systems)
- Local search heuristics
(genetic algorithms, simulated annealing, AI and ant colony methods)
- Theory of data compression methods
(zip, mpg, jpg, mp3,...)
- If you know another interesting topic, feel free to suggest it at the
first meeting.
Selected Papers
The Seminar in Theory is affiliated with the
Club for Theoretical
Computer Science. See the fall 2002 schedule of the club for the
current topic and a list of references.
