A black-cloaked figure slowly descends from the higher regions of the Cathedral, red eyes gleaming out from underneath his hood, wings beating where the feet should be.
Yuriel looks up from the Malakite she was comforting!
Keiel ooooooo's at the dark cloaked figure and whirl-bows her ring of fire to the Boss.
Yuriel's flames flutter out along the ground in a curtsey!
Dominic continues his slow descent. As he reaches the ground, he says, "Keiel. Yuriel. Come." He is clearly audible, despite being some ways away.
Yuriel whisks to Dominic's feet in a swirl of actinic fire!
Keiel beams and follows quickly as well!
Dominic says, quietly, "I have a mission that requires your -- particular talents."
Yuriel says "Cool!"
Dominic tilts one eye to look at each of them in turn, and there is almost humor in it. "It is of vital importance. Do not treat it lightly."
Yuriel says "Of course not, your Justice!"
Keiel says "Yes, Sir."
Dominic says, "There are Inquisition members in Hollywood. Los Angeles."
Keiel gives a whirl of delight, "Oooo... The City of Angels!"
Dominic considers. "Not all of them are mine."
Keiel blinks.
Yuriel whispers to Keiel, "Leonardo diCaprio!"
Keiel blushes happily.
Dominic murmurs, "You should not be giving your attention to Nybbas' creation."
Yuriel blushes.
"There are indications," he continues, "that these 'Inquisitors', in fact, belong to Lightning. You appreciate why this concerns me."
Yuriel says "Cool! Widgets!"
Dominic says, "And why I chose you for this particular mission."
Yuriel quickly looks down again.
Keiel says "Hrm... they're faking belonging to you? That's bad."
Dominic tilts his cloaked head. "As you say, Keiel."
Keiel blinks at Yuriel.
Keiel says "What would you like for us to do to 'em, Sir?"
Yuriel says "Whole or diced?"
Dominic says, "I have had a list prepared of their current abodes. I would like you to determine their purpose, ideally without revealing my interest to Jean."
Dominic smiles. "You may remove them if it is necessary."
Yuriel says "Cool!"
Keiel says "Hoorah!"
Yuriel says "They won't get away this time, your Justice!"
Keiel contemplates Dominic's ideal. "Uhm... you don't want them to know that we're onto them?"
Yuriel nudges Keiel. "They can't tell anyone if they're dead!" she whispers.
Keiel murmurs, "Oh. But I'm not sure that's what he means..."
Red eyes tilt downwards for a moment. "I trust in this." There is a fluttering of wings, and a file drops from under his cloak. "The addresses. The names. Authority. And you do not need to worry about their knowledge; as Inquisitors, must they not cooperate with you in all things?"
Yuriel catches the file and tucks it away.
"Avoid their knowledge of your knowledge -- *if* it is possible. That is all."
Dominic flutters upwards again.
Yuriel says "We'll get right on it, your Justice!"
Yuriel waves to her Malakite. "Sorry, handsome! Duty calls!"
The Malakite flutters a dark wing and smiles gently.
Keiel waves to hers as well and grins.
Keiel says "Okay. They have to cooperate with us. That's good."
Yuriel says "Everyone cooperates with us! Sooner or later."
Yuriel checks her plasma gun and tool belt.
Keiel giggles and checks out her weapons as well.
Their equipment rests against a tilting wall, protected by their fierce feline security system.
Keiel peers over Yuriel's shoulder at the file. "Where to?"
Yuriel gives the security system a pat on the head.
Yuriel opens up the file!
11012 Scenario Lane is the first address on the list. Michael Weather, Jennifer Routine, and Lois First are the names written alongside.
Keiel scruffles the system behind the ears... and gets her gear.
The security system murfles cheerfully.
Keiel makes for the Tether to LA.
Yuriel says "Routine... that sure sounds like a Jeanie name."
Yuriel says "Sounds familiar too..."
Yuriel trails along behind Keiel, muttering. "Was she the overstacked tramp who was making eyes at Oriel? No, that was some Novalite..."
Suddenly, enlightenment! There was a Margaret Routine who *did* work for Lightning who gave them defective equipment about eight missions back.
Yuriel says "Ooh! She'll get hers!"
Keiel marches along and greets the Senchenal and grins at remembering and it's not a particularly pretty grin...
Keiel says "Keen."
Yuriel cycles the diagnostics on her plasma gun again. *beep* *beep* *ominous electrical whine of charge-up*
Keiel says "Hi! Two to go down! And is there a convertable in the lot?"
Yuriel says "Ooh! Do you have a Z3?"
Yuriel says "Maphomet said they're *great*, especially if you disable that silly 135mph cutoff!"
The person at the 'upper' level of the Tether blanches on seeing you two. Quietly, she tosses you a set of keys and whispers, "Behind the courthouse ..."
Yuriel grabs (successfully) for the keys! "My turn to drive!"
Then she points to the great Heavenly escalator downwards.
Keiel says "hey!!"
Keiel runs after Yuriel...
Yuriel slides down the railing of the heavenly escalator!
Keiel slides down as well.
Yuriel says "Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!"
They arrive in a Los Angeles courthouse, plasma rifles in hand, in the middle of a trial room. The defendant *was* speaking.
Yuriel beams dazzlingly. "Sorry, don't mind us!"
Yuriel dashes for the exit, long fair legs flashing!
Yuriel notices that the defendant's watch has a high-quality Lightning-made crystal display interface, programmable. He does not, however, match any of the pictures in the file.
Yuriel has already started for the door and Ofanim don't turn back! They do, however, stop just outside and listen!
Keiel whirls around the corner and then double takes as Yuriel stops.
Keiel says "What?"
Yuriel stops jut outside the door, and listens to the trial. This may take a moment as the males present regain control of their blood flow, but she's used to that.
The defendant is saying, calmly, "Bring me the assurances I have requested and no harm will be done."
Yuriel whispers to Keiel, "That defendent had a Lightning-made wristcomp of some kind!"
Keiel eeps.
Keiel settles behind Yuriel and waits, impatiently tapping her finger on a gun barrel.
The bailiff, much closer to the door is saying, "Sir, we have no evidence that you can carry through on your threat -- besides some sort of flim-flam illusionist trick --"
At that, footsteps start approaching the door you just went through.
Yuriel ducks back to be behind the door when it opens!
It's the other bailiff. He pushes open the door and looks around in the corridor.
Yuriel is cleverly hidden behind the door!
Keiel hides behind Yuriel.
The bailiff looks around, and calls back, "They're gone. Probably were never here."
Blee-blee-bleep noises in the background. "Really, I don't have time for this," the defendant says. "I have been urgently summoned. You have sixty seconds."
Yuriel waits for the bailiff to retreat, and then tries to get a better look at the wristcomp/bomb. (Well, it would have a bomb if *she* built it!)
The wristcomp looks to be *prime* technology.
Yuriel watches interestedly to find out what it does!
It's probably not a bomb, but who knows?
Yuriel uses her (special) Attunement! Is it working properly?
It's working quite well.
Keiel uh oh's on seeing Yuriel's face and whirls to be back to back with her partner. Something is going to be incoming, likely...
A security guard rounds the corner from down the hall. He gapes at the two angels.
Yuriel is watching the courtroom, so leaves the batting and wiggling to Keiel.
The defendant says, "Thirty seconds."
Keiel beams at the guard.
Keiel says "There's going to be something nasty coming, you'd better get down."
Yuriel fishes a scanner out of her toolbelt and checks it. Hmph. Nothing there.
The guard eyes Keiel's plasma rifle.
Yuriel tries a scintillometer!
The defendant says, edgily, "What was that? Someone was talking ..."
The guard eyes other attributes of Keiel.
Keiel meets the guard's eyes with her huge blue ones...
The scintillometer indicates that the wristwatch is a computer, a small heads-up holographic television, and an all-bandwidth signal transmitter!
Yuriel squeaks amazedly! She never got a reading like *that* from a scintillometer before!
. o O ( Dominic must have been tinkering with your stuff again! )
Yuriel pulls out a radio receiver and listens?
Keiel jumps a bit at the squeak and swings the huge plasma gun expertly...
The guard draws his gun. "St-stop!" he cries out.
Keiel also swings her own chassis just as expertly... and pouts at the guard.
The defendant thumbs his watch. The radio goes *click*.
Keiel murmurs, "But it's what I do..."
Yuriel casts a glance back over shoulder at the guard, but Keiel has him under control, so she bends back to watching the goings-on, with the predictable effect on her shorts.
Everyone hears a faint, ever-increasing whine.
The guard looks around.
Yuriel tries to localize the whine!
The defendant says, smugly, "Minus fifteen seconds."
It's coming from above!
Yuriel looks up!
Yuriel . o O (It's only mortals who never look up. :)
Keiel looks up!
Keiel points that plasma gun up, too.
There's a *schwing!* from inside the trial room. Then the roof above you and the room starts to break as a very heavy, very fast object falls from the sky ...
Yuriel draws her gun!
Yuriel doesn't shoot until she really positively verifies that it's a hostile or at least suspicious very heavy very fast object, though! Dominic was *so* upset about that one time.
Keiel has the plasma gun pointed up... and fires on seeing the heavy object...
Keiel . o O ( He didn't get upset at *me*! )
Yuriel is also the sensible and restrained one. :)
Keiel . o O ( Just kinda upset at the whats-it disintigrating...)
A state of the art VTAL inertialess plane is momentarily visible through the crumbling wooden-and-plaster ceiling before Keiel fires.
Yuriel says "Inertialess?!?!"
Yuriel says "I want!"
Yuriel slaps Keiel's gun down! But Keiel is faster!
Keiel is gonna get so beat on by Yuriel after this, though, she
knows...
The plane is shot clear through! It tumbles sideways to slam into the
trial room floor, on edge! Everyone is shouting! The guard is shooting
through the crumbled ceiling at nothing!
Yuriel . o O ( Sure, she doesn't have all those higher brain functions
to interfere with her reflex arcs. )
Yuriel says "Keiel, you *shot* it!"
Keiel says "I did!"
Keiel says so in triumph.
Yuriel says "The only inertialess flyer I might ever get my hands on
and you *shot* it!"
Yuriel, your radio squeals!
Yuriel jumps straight up!
Keiel says "can't you... uhm... like fix it or something? Now that you
can get your hands on it?"
"Stop him!" someone inside the courtroom yells.
Keiel jumps as well!
Yuriel yells, "I'm busy!" into the radio and runs for the flyer!
Keiel looks for the unkempt ugly defendant ...
The door is pretty much in ruins, so everyone can see the potential
Lightningite vaulting the witness box with typical Jeanian agility.
(I.e. none.) His watch squawks, "I'm busy!"
Yuriel tackles him!
Yuriel uses the Song of Anime Leaping if required.
He goes down!
Yuriel says "All right, you! Where'd you get the flier?"
Yuriel menaces the pilot, if any, with her plasma pistol. Funny how
such a small bore can look so big from the right angle...
Amazingly, no pilot is in evidence.
Yuriel is talking to the tackled guy, though.
Yuriel realizes two things: 1, a plane like that has to steal the
inertia of things beneath it to generate its own for a takeoff -- and
2, it may do nasty things if wounded! Keiel realizes that guards
are pouring around the corner towards her!
Keiel runs toward the plane!
The Jeanite grabs frantically for the side of the gun!
Yuriel plants a boot on his face as she dives for the cockpit and the
off switch!
Yuriel says "Keiel, get the innocents out of here!"
Keiel rounds up innocents quickly and heads them... well... towards the
oncoming guards...
The Jeanite tumbles backwards and begins to fade out of existence.
An oncoming guard yells, "Oh my God, it's the Dirty Triad!"
Yuriel yells some more about random force vectors and fifth-force
deannealing, but it's not like Keiel would understand it.
Keiel looks over her shoulder as the guard yells...
Yuriel says "Don't save that one!"
Several guards brake frantically. The others, confused, yell,
"Everybody down!"
They continue towards Keiel and the innocents she is trying to
shepherd!
Keiel nods grimly and uses all her abilities to get people *OUT*. "GET
OUT Of here! It's gonna blow!!"
Keiel says "No! Go the OTHER WAY!!"
Yuriel tries to power down the flyer!
The security guard yells, "Get down! The exits are wired!"
But which switch, Yuriel? The big red button, or the big blue button?
Keiel sings the Song of Shields to cover the crowd and the guards, if
she can ...
The Shields whip around and around in the local area, but aren't going
to protect everyone at once! People are screaming!
Yuriel whistles the Song of Mechanical Obedience as she works...
Yuriel performs divination by spark-jump and pushes the.... red button!
Keiel will concentrate on shielding from the doors, she trusts Yuriel...
The plane slowly begins powering down!
Keiel notices a Seraphic celestial form is trying to dash past her!
Keiel grabs ... no, wait, she's corporeal!
Keiel slams the Shield into it!
He slams into the shield and looks stunned!
Keiel whees.
A crystal watch attached to his wing shatters!
Keiel uh oh.
Yuriel tries to get the drive to shed momentum into the ground. That's
what ground is *for*. Like the time she banked the soccer ball off
David and made a goal.
Keiel yells, "Yuriel, what happens if his watch breaks?"
Yuriel's radio emits an all-bands screech.
Yuriel says "he can't call for help! I think."
Keiel swings the shield back into place between the doors and the
people.
Keiel yells, "Oh... okay, then..."
The ground jumps and trembles, but the plane is powering down faster!
Yuriel hopes this doesn't cause the ground to react the way David
did...
The earth beneath the plane begins to slide to the side. Since the
plane's wing is imbedded in the ground in that direction, the plane is
sliding with it. This leaves a huge crack in the Earth.
*BOOM* in the distance.
The Seraph tries to get up, and fails.
*BOOM* a bit closer.
Yuriel is busy with the drive system. Keiel will just have to worry
about the demons coming out of the pit.
Keiel drops the shield and finds the fastest way to be between the
people and the BOOM's.
Keiel rolls amazingly well ....
Keiel also levels her plasma gun in that direction.
The plane's drive finally shuts down! The chunk of rock attached to it
begins sliding (with plane) sideways into the pit, so that the plane
itself, attached by the wing, will slam into the appropriate side of
the pit. Keiel sees a wave of fire heading down the hall towards her!
A similar one from the other side looks like it will be caught by the
shields.
Keiel eeks.
Keiel looks like she has, in fact, properly placed herself between it
and them ...
Yuriel squeaks and bails out of the plane!
Keiel says "Plasma... anti-burn. If I burn the air before it..."
Keiel fires her plasma gun at the on-coming rush of fire!
Everyone rolls amazingly well ...
The explosion rocks backwards, expanding in every direction
but towards Keiel and the crowd! Yuriel rolls past the edge of the pit,
flips, and comes up atop the judge's bench!
Keiel says "WOOOOOHA!"
Yuriel observes the judge cowering behind the bench.
The plane smashes into the side of the pit, the rock slides for a little
bit longer, and then everything is quiet. The plane is still slightly
visible, far below.
Yuriel beams reassuringly down past the display of gams that's about
all he can see from there. "Don't worry, your honor! We've got it under
control!"
There is nothing left of the courthouse in the direction Keiel is
facing. Just a *long* scorched empty space and then a street.
Yuriel flinches at the crunch of her pretty new flyer turning into
scrap ceramic.
Keiel's eyes are ablaze with delight as she grins at the emptyness.
"Well, that's under control."
Yuriel shrugs. "Easy come, easy go!"
Yuriel will pick up the pieces later.
Yuriel looks around. "Woo! Keiel! What was that?"
Yuriel looks around for more trouble!
Behind Keiel, there are still *some* pieces of the courthouse. And the
people are looking around in startlement. The Seraph falls into
corporeal form again, and dashes for the emptiness.
Keiel yells, "Just a fire wave... it's... uhm... under control. Okay...
where'd that sneaky seraph go?"
Keiel pounces!
Since there's pretty much no walls in that direction any
more, Yuriel can see him running, too.
Yuriel springs down from the judge's bench, lands with a bounce, and
sprints in pursuit!
Each of them grabs one arm and the Seraph is yanked to the ground!
Yuriel touches the muzzle of her gun to the Seraph's eye.
Yuriel says "Okay, start talking!"
Suddenly Keiel is no longer touching the Seraph! And he's on his feet
again, touching the *other end* of Yuriel's gun! And Yuriel has just
gotten a *powerful* shock!
The GM rolls the dice and gets 1.
Well, maybe not that powerful.
In fact, downright pathetic.
Yuriel shrieks anyway, and slugs him reflexively!
Keiel grabs the Seraph again. "None of that jumping around, or we'll do
something."
His shoulders sag. Then he is grabbed. Then his head rocks back hard
and his eyes turn into little whirlpools for a moment.
He says, "Ow."
Yuriel shakes her smoking fingers, tossing her gun from hand to hand!
Then she cycles the diagnostics again. *beep* *beep* *power-up*
Yuriel says "Be careful! This is a piece of precision equipment!"
He says, "Okay! Okay! Look, I just got this message!"
Yuriel says "Do you know what happens if you short out the controller
for a migma cell?"
He snaps, "How could I not? ..." He hesitates, thinking. "What?"
Keiel winces.
Yuriel waves the gun at him, not particularly muzzle-first!
Keiel says "What message?"
Yuriel says "You could have irradiated this whole building!"
Keiel shakes him, gently.
Yuriel looks around at what's left of the building, sheepishly, and
holsters her gun.
Yuriel smiles her nicest, sweetest, kindest smile at the Seraph.
"It said that help was on the way, and that I was not to try and escape
or summon my plane until two angels appeared in the courthouse!" He
gulps. "That's all I know!"
Yuriel says "Who sent this message?"
"Jean!" he says. "I think!"
He admits, "I don't know. It sounded kind of funny."
Keiel says "Funny how?"
Yuriel says "What were you doing in the courthouse?"
Yuriel says "And what's your name?"
"Well, like a recording." He frowns. "But, well, that's not
surprising."
"I was jaywalking," he says, and blushes and ducks his head.
Yuriel says "JAYWALKING?!"
He says, "I'm sorry! It was just once! It won't happen again!"
Yuriel prods him with a toe. "What's your name?"
"Bezek," he admits. "But you can call me Buzz."
Yuriel gets out the file and looks to see if he's mentioned therein.
Nope, not in the file.
The bailiff says, coming up behind everyone, "Buzz Lightning, he means. And
I'll take it from here."
Yuriel says "And who are *you*?"
Yuriel turns at the waist to look at the bailiff, showing him her
profile.
The bailiff says, "Officer of the Court, ma'am. Bailiff. I'll be
transporting him back to jail, if my car's all right." He casts an eye
at the parking lot, in which every car is now black. But some of them
still have all their metal and parts.
Keiel says "We'll take responsibility for him, sir."
"Pardon?" he says. "Are you ... FBI?"
Keiel says "No, sir, a higher Authority."
