Hassan Rivaz is currently an NSERC post-doctoral fellow at the McConnell Brain Imaging Center working with D. Louis Collins. His current work is focused on automatic deformable registration of multi-modal images, such as T1 and T2 magnetic resonance (MR) images.

He received his PhD from the NSF ERC for Computer Integrated Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University working with Gregory Hager, Emad Boctor and Gabor Fichtinger. His thesis was focused on tissue motion estimation from ultrasound time-series images. Estimation of the tissue motion has many medical applications, such as imaging tissue elasticity or elastography.

His goal is to transcend current limitations of the medical practice by using novel image analysis techniques. Specific medical applications of his work are in better detection and diagnosis, as well as improved planning and guidance of surgical operations.
