oops! sorry...
I will post a complete and pretty version after Utah Scrimmage.
Things you might want to know right now:
1) Dates: Registration Friday night, November 1, 7:30--10:00 pm at
the tournament hotel.
2) Hotel: Tournament hotel is the Town & Country Inn, 200 W. Main,
Cedar City, UT 84720. Rooms with two double beds are $49. Rate
will apply after deadline if rooms are available, but CUTOFF DATE
FOR GUARANTEED AVAILABILITY IS OCTOBER 15. Tourism is the chief
money-maker in Red Rock country, so the hotels tend to fill fast.
Phone number for the hotel is (801) 586-9900. The name of the
person in charge is "Doris" in case whomever you get on the phone
doesn't know about the block. Identify SUU speech and debate
tournament when you reserve. Nice hotel. Good "Sizzler"
right next door with a nice, fresh salad/soup/food bar.
3) Events: Team debate on the CEDA/NDT topic. Open, junior, and
novice offered; we reserve the right to collapse any division
which cannot make "legitimate" semis. We will follow all CEDA
eligibility rules, and subscribe to both the CEDA sexual
harassment/non-discrimination and ethical relations policies.
Appropriate elim rounds and speaker awards. 8-3-5-8 times.
We will offer open division competition in Parliamentary Debate
(NPDA), and in all 11 AFA-NIET events (AFA rules). Individual
IE sweepstakes to top three competitors. Overall team sweeps
includes debate; separate sweeps awards for junior colleges.
4) Time schedule starts with IE at 8:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 2
(extemp draw at 7:30). Debates begin at 11:00 AM. Both
prelims of IE in two flights are on Saturday; we get 4 debate
prelims in on Sat. Sunday begins with half of the IE elims
at 8:00 AM, R5 of debate at 9:45. Saturday schedule is pretty
much over by 10:00 pm (6:00 for IE-only); awards assembly
Sunday is 4:15; we're usually in debate semis at 5:15. If
we get large enough for octos, the 5:15 round will likely
be quarters.
5) Fees: $40/team for team and parliamentary debate.
$ 6/IE slot
$50/uncovered debate team
$ 6/uncovered IE slot
Judge covers 2 debate teams; 8 IE slots.
6) Entry deadline NOON, WEDNESDAY, OCT. 30. FEES ASSESSED AS OF
NOON THURSDAY, OCT. 31. NUISANCE FEES FOR REGISTRATION DROPS
$20/DEBATE TEAM; $6/IE SLOT. JUDGING COMMITMENTS ARE LOCKED
AS OF NOON OCT. 31.
7) JUDGES: We will gladly hire your extra judges at $10/rd.
Cannot give cash; will send check. WE DO NOT HAVE A LARGE
LOCAL JUDGING POOL. I know everyone says that; we really
mean it. I mean, this is Cedar City, Utah, for gosh sake.
