Fiat and the Rev
Comrades Shaw makes an excellent point about fiating a mechanism as
opposed to the actual revolution. The deliniation between fiat of a
mechanism to change consciousness (i.e. MLM press) and fiating a change
in consciousness itself is key to all "utopia" debates. I believe that
it is a fair and legitimate thing for Comrade Shaw to fiat Socialist
Education as a counterplan this weekend at WWU. (Or will it be MAO? No,
your cards are better on DemSoc ;) This allows the negative to fiat
their utopia of choice, and the affirmative to argue the transition
story. In fact, having to defend a particular mechanism opens the neg up
to better transition answers, since the counterplan solvency now depends
on the mechanism achieving a critical mass of consciousness.
Yes, Jeff, the revolution will go WHOOSH and spread like wildfire. And
knowing what I know of your soc files and the answers I have here, I'm
going to get burned this weekend :(
About to be beaten senseless with the Soc Stick,
Steve Pointer
Many thanks to Jordan Mills for showing us the way.
