test; ignoreBerkely
Since the Berkely issue has been on the L I want to make it clear how I and
the executive board have been handling this matter. I received a letter
about the status of the Berkely team from Doug Zuidema the Office of
Student Conduct, a letter from Erica Grosjean explaining how they are
solving their problem, a letter from Doug Zuidema saying that they are
satisfied with the way the team is trying to solve the problem this year, a
letter from Sherman Boyson describing the problem from his point of view
and I have had phone conversations with the Office of Student Conduct and
with the Berkely advisor Hal Reynolds, Hal is an adjunct English professor
and has no debate background but has volunteered to help the team by being
their advisor. After speaking via email to the CEDA executive board I made
the decision to ask Erica to bring with her verifycation that students are
registered in school to each tournament that Berkely participates in this
year, and to send that veriyication to Greg Simerly for points. We will
also require this type of documentation for participation in the national
tournament 1997. Hal Reynolds told me that he gets the verifycation for
Erica for each tournament and both are satisfied with this method and see
it as a tool to clear the Berkely name and to assist them in getting off of
probation after this year. CEDA has taken no other action at this time.
Any additional response to the Berkely issue will be discussed with the
executive board at SCA. At this time I am confident that Hal Reynolds is
getting official documentation for the students. Pam Stepp
