A "W" for truthseeking and education!

When I see so much political discussion on Ceda-L,  I wonder if all of
this would be occuring in a debate activity that was not structured
around winning a judges vote.  Would any of you go to tournaments to just
present your research and discuss it if all you received was a folder of
constructive criticism from scholarly judges at the end of the weekend or
just to allow your students that opportunity?

Would there be all this political hogwash? ; )

P.S.
I realize there is a difference between utopia and reality.  I know that
programs need funding.  
Would your school provide funding for that kind of opportunity?
