Preseason Champs Revisited
1) I forgot to mention that one freshmen team, Matt Anderson and
Ryan Sparacino of Northwestern University was in fact the top seeded
freshmen team, with a 6-2 record. This team was the 12th seed in the open
division, and won their double octas round, however, losing to Harvard's
Sonja Starr and Sanket Bulsara in the octafinals. By this point it was too
late for them to enter the pre-season run for the championship.
2) THE TOP FIVE SPEAKERS AMONG NOVICE DEBATING IN THE VARSITY DIVISION

3- Andy Peterson, Iowa
4- Chris Pudelski, Michigan

Emory RW defeated Samford

Emory RW defeated Kansas EM
Finals
The tournament director declared the six people composing the three
victorious Emory teams as the 1996 "Pre-season Novice National Champions."
