HEADLINE: Nude man is arrested on highway after crash
BYLINE: By Ray Richard, Globe Staff
DATELINE: BURLINGTON
BODY:
A motorist who swerved to avoid a nude man darting through traffic on Route
128 was slightly injured early yesterday after his truck rolled over and he
was thrown through its windshield.
Gerald Champagne of Smithfield, R.I., was treated at Lahey Clinic Medical
Center and released after the 4:30 a.m. accident.
About a quarter-mile from the accident scene, state Trooper Frank Hughes
arrested David Berube, 38, of Haverhill, who Hughes said was walking on the
highway naked.
Berube was charged with indecent exposure and being a disorderly person
and taken to Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was later committed to
Bournewood
Hospital in Brookline for psychiatric evaluation.
Corp. Joseph Howley said State Police in Concord began to get calls at 3:55
a.m. about a nude man running in and out of traffic on Route 3 in the
Billerica area. A cruiser was sent to the area, but the man was not found.
About 20 minutes later, other callers reported the man on Route 128 in
Burlington, about 5 miles from where he first was reported.
