quick thoughts on the topic....
2) Jason Nordwick is right that the 'increasing info tech' topic crushes the
uniqueness to all the DA's. Greg is right when he says attempts to
counterplan in uniqueness will be easily permed away. Bear is right when he
says that these counterplans will also link to huge DA's. If it's this topic
be ready to win the flip in elims because their win percentage is going to go
up. Also, get the plan inclusive counterplans ready to roll 'cause that is
going to be the way to win on the neg.
3) Schools - traffic school, truck driving school, massage school, need I go
on. Tbird and I thought of over 50 cases in about 2 minutes. Don't like broad
topics, generic debates or topicality. This topic means no other choices.
4) Sorry if Josh posted this already and I missed it but what is the
definition of 'computer mediated communication'. Do those words appear in the
literature?
5) It would be nice if the topic committee members would explain why they
thought particular resolutions would be good topics. I'm not suggesting that
you say 'This is the best topic'. I'm asking for a broad outline of why a
topic was chosen i.e. 'we felt this would be a narrow topic, it's a value
topic which we felt should be on the ballot, this topic is an important
issue,' and most importantly 'this has equal opportunities for research with
aff ground being X and neg ground being Y', etc.
6) Glenn Ellingson is right when he says the topic committee did a good job
in the short time they have. Our topic selection process is a mess anyone
want to take on that assignment. I've got my hands full with Pick 20.
7) Right now I'm leaning toward 'export restrictions' being the best topic of
the bunch.
8) Bob Lechtreck is right when he says the impact of getting a couple of
these topics is so bad that it isn't worth taking the risk that we might get
one the good one.
Keep those topic thoughts rolling. My debaters want me to vote to keep Mexico
but we're still very undecided about which of the info tech topics to vote
for.
