NCAA division II
I am uncomfortable with the notion of a further separation into
divisions. At some point there is a danger that we begin to resemble the
NCAA, with teams that have smaller bugets or transitionary periods
resembling the NAIA. This seems even more exclutionary than the current
system. What part of the educational process is lost when "high power"
teams are set aside. I personally enjoyed the challenge of overcoming a
team that had a larger research base. And while I understand that for
newbies in the activity there are different motivations, where do the
division line get drawn. IE last year lewis and clark had a good year,
this was a culmination of three to four years of changing and building
the team. This year while we will be competative we have lost a large
part of our research base. Do we move down a division to stay competative?
Do we look like Oregon State hanging at the bottom of Pack Ten. Do we
have our deans replace the choaching staff if the teams don't win first
three tournaments? Will this turn into some hellish recruting committee
that decides if we have violated the CEDA constitution by taking
prospective students to tournaments to expose them to the activity. WILL
OUR TV TIME BE TAKEN AWAY???
I understand that much of this far fetched, but so are many
debates. I don't think that I have any answers, but I do think that
many of the issues can be solved by trying to bring more people into the
activity in the present JR and NOV divisions.
