Freshmen and women

I agree with Pat that I will lose my lunch.  This blatant sexism on 
the L demeans all women who have ever tried to make anything out of 
themselves in this activity.  Your response that you didn't mean to 
offend the freshpeople just entrenches the indignity because you don't 
even realize what you've done.  You put women in the same category as 
"freshmen" as if women do not deserve the same respect and vote on the 
topic as other debaters with college seniority.  There are many freshpeople 
who are highly intelligent, devote a lot of time to the activity and deserve 
respect, but WITHOUT a doubt, the "freshmen and women" has negative 
connotations for  women debaters at any level.  

I don't think even sarcastic comments like this are appropriate because 
they are unlikely to be seen as that in a written forum.  Women need to 
be encouraged in debate, not ridiculed.

I think you should retract your statement if you really intended to write 
this, and issue a formal apology to all women and other feminist-minded 
individuals who may have been offended by your remark.
