Re: Trash
>>>>>>>>>>
I can't believe the amount of trivial, "who cares," trash that I find sent
out to everyone on the subscriber list!!! I subscribed because I wanted
important information on issues which are seen as at least somewhat relevant
to the forensics community at large. >>>>>>>>>>
I agree, there are, sometimes, posts which would seem to be unnecessary.
However, there are a great many which are in keeping with the spirit of the
L. Sometimes you have to take the bad with the good.
>>>>>>>>>>
Other DOF's warned me that CEDA-L was full of trash, but after I sifted
through the 87 messages posted within the last 24 hour period, I found 4
messages that were important enough for me to read and retain.
>>>>>>>>>>
First, I'm not sure which DoF's warned you about that, but if they used that
verbage, they were either WRONG, or thought the L was something that it
isn't. CEDA-L has it's silly messages (see above), but I would hardly
catagorize it as "full of trash".
Second, if you only found 4 messages that you found important I would
question your reasons for being on the L. Out of the last 60-80 messages that
I have read, I have found at LEAST 40 worthy of my time. I may not find many
"worthy of retaining", but I get value out of MANY things that I don't keep.

Don't be lazy. Send YOUR message to YOUR buddies using THEIR e-mail
addresses, so the rest of us don't have to suffer through your pity party.
>>>>>>>>>>
Again, I would agree in theory, but it isn't always that easy. Sometimes you
are trying to reach more than just one person with your post. Granted, not
EVERYONE will be interested, but many will. Sorry, it is hard to please
everyone.
Additionally, even the pity party you speak about may have interested more
than just the people involved. I am frequently interested in what debaters
have to say about judges. I like to think that there are areas that I could
improve my judging skills and try to be a better judge for the debaters.
These "pity partys" may have some educational benefit if you give it a
chance.
On the whole, just try to see the "other person's" point of view sometimes.
The message may not be interesting to you, but with 500 people on the L, it
may interest many.
Peace,
