Re: Topic Suggestion
Jim Hanson's comments are one reason why the topic committee needs help.
Go to the library look up oceans oceanographic etc. talk to any
oceanographers environmentalists on your campuses for ideas.
Above all, help the committee with short, concise, precise fair clear
wording for the topic. When you suggest a topic be sure the grammar is
clear. When you suggest a topic be sure it is clear. If you want an agent
of action suggest one (this implies I assume a policy should topic???)If
you want a topic with clear bounds, suggest wording that will prevent or
at least slow debater wierdo creativity. If you want a good topic, use
just the right (correct) words.
If you try all this, you will find it isn't as easy maybe as you first
thought. However, if you produce some good topics, please do suggest them
to us. The committee does very very seriously consider suggestions. We
are most willing to have our topics "critiqued" to come up with the best
we can for the community to debate. We will allow a short criticism
period for the topics we do come up with at San Diego. WE will then reach
a committee consensus or majority and send them to all of you who have
paid your CEDA dues for a vote.
