Elitism

In Reference to the post by Joanne Castella basing money as a reason that
elitism exists, I think you are issing the boat! Talent and hard work pay off,
and everyone sees it! 3 examples of the non-elite rocking the house! 1)Ted
and Trond from Oregon came down a few years ago to UCO when I was a pup and
kicked the crap out of the Midwest! I happened to be a speed bump for them in
Octos as a young sophmore! Trond was top speaker and they lost in semis! Not
a lot of money, and they weren't packing lexis! 2)Lincoln and Jordan, paid ther
own way to UCO a year later, got me in quarters! At the time SDSU's library
was no longer getting new subscriptions, and they had no lexis, lost in semis!
3)Blake and Ian from Gonzaga! Only travel on the "national circuit" a couple
times a year b/c of budget constraints! Won UMKC last year, not a lot of rep or
cash or lexis at the time! They also popped me at Long Beach in Octos last
year (got them back at Utah :-) Hi guys!
The point being, none of those teams have the budgets or huge coaching
staffs or research assitants or scholarships that supposedly make the elite
better and the regional teams inferior! They worked hard, and they rocked the
house even when this theoretical "elite" distinction said they shouldn't have!
People might think that the midwest or top ten creates these elite
distinctions! What creates them are the teams that work hard, and don't
complain about their disadvantages but overcome them! Earn your rep! -Sean-
