Nationals

 Rodger is correct in his assessment of our lack of willing hosts for the
National tournament.  After having worked in several nationals tab rooms
(even one way back then, when we used cards, if you can imagine it), helped
two hosts with last minute preparations, and processed one national tourney
evaluation study, I can honestly say that there's no way that I'd even
ask someone to consider the idea of hosting the national tournament.  It's
just too big to deal with.  Whether we like it or not, we need some
mechanism to decrease the number of teams that attend.  And since it _is_
a _national_ tournament, where we showcase our best, a qualification
process--no matter how nominal it is at first--would make the tournament
somewhat more manageable.  We may not like the "elitism" involved, but it
will all too soon become a matter of necessity.
