Just a couple quick observations:
As Ken intimated in his posting, we are committed to insuring the
technical and staffing feasibility of whatever proposal the community
might make concerning judge assignment. I appreciate Jim's concern that
we would stay up all night. If necessary we would. However, other
technological solutions are available. While it is not now a feature of
the released version of my program, I could easily implement a multiple
computer-entry, file merging feature into the running of nats. More
probably, I would integrate Scantron capability so that we could scan
preference sheets into the computer (with or without visual
double-checks). I would research the reliability of SCANTRON before
making such a call. In any case, technologically we could do it. If, in
fact, the community adopted a protocol that they felt could be better
implemented in Rich's software, so be it. Doug would have to make that
call.
The bottom line is, mutual preference should be debated ON MERITS. I
believe that full debate should focus on perceived benefits and perceived
costs, not on tabroom fatigue or the choice of programs. I have
intentially avoided presenting my own views because of the potential
conflict of interest.
Thanks - and keep talking,
GARY
