Highschool Exspenses

Since I now coach a highschool team that travels nationally, I have learned of
the tremendous amounts of money that go into attending a tournament!
Particularly the "national circuit tournaments"!  These tournaments charge
outrageous amounts for entry fees, and then charge you for everything under the
sun!  It is not unheard of for my squad to pay $60 a team, in addition to any
judging expenses and then hotel rooms!  The schools are like airports (pure
capitalism)!  Since when did a slice of Dominoes start costing $1.50!

For college teams this is not a problem, since we have budgets, but the parents
pay for most everything if they want their kids to travel!

I think the expenses of tournaments in highschool serve two functions!

a)Create a rich team only club by making it to expensive to attned tournaments!

b)Make it to where "National Circuit" debate is limited primarily to wealthy
squads, and decrease the desire of those less wealthy to join our activity!  IN
essence, a "rich white boy activity"
