Re: Wow, CEDA-L rules - and ideas for the future...
<Judge examines transcript and types out decision and points.
<It might go pretty fast, you could just lay in some of your prepared stuff.
<The cards can be copied and pasted in.
<2. Delayed format. One debate a day...any day...until round one is over. Then
<go on. It ma take a few weeks, but who cares?
<3. No travel money?
<4. Controls on coach intervention?
<5. Evidence would spread around pretty rapidly. Can you take whatever you see
<on the wire? Is the content of each round private for judge & teams or can
<anyone copy? Release entire transcript after tournament or after that round
<is complete.
I like the idea of the future debate, but I have a few responses
1. assuming that the debators would not have to leave their respective schools to
contribute in the debate how would the individual debaters know that they are responding
to the arguments of say...grad assiss like Jamie Dumas? Of course some might say that it
already occurs when debaters read prepared briefs so I guess this wouldn't really matter.
2. now tuna...we all know that debate should be educational so what is the point of
loading prepared stuff into the round? Isn't the whole point of debate to sharpen the
argumentative skills of the debaters...you know getting them to think on their feet?
3. Although there wouldn't be travel money, I bet the schools would find a way to charge
for the e-mail/telnet system...especially if they know that their debate team depends on
the existence of such a communication line.
4. how would this really control judge intervention?
5. I don't like the idea of someone else people able to copy my cards....although isn't
there a team who gets information from some electronic system...hey this wouldn't be too
bad...but it might be even more repititious...kind of like our own starmakers....
These were just some initial responses...
