Webster University Tournaments for 97-98!

As many of you have heard, I am the new director of forensics at Webster U in
St. Louis. As far as we know, Robert Markstrom will assume the director
responsibilities at McNeese starting this summer. Gina and I have wanted to
re-located back home for some time, and Webster's position made that possible
(they are even naming Gina Ass't Director!).

We will be hosting TWO tournaments this next season--one debate and ie
tournament in January and another IE only as part of the Gateway weekend.
Information on each follows below. We will try to have invites out on each
early in the fall since these are new...we plan to make them worth your while
and hope to see many of you in St. Louis!

THE MIGHTY GORLOCK FORENSIC GALA--January 23-25, 1998

The schedule, hotel, etc remains up in the air. We know we will offer
open and novice divisions of CEDA, an open division of Parli, and at least
one LD division on the CEDA topic (if interest warrants we may well add an
NFA LD division). There will also be all 11 AFA ies in at least two flights.
After we see when rooms are available we may decide to go into a three flight
schedule. At minimum, debaters will be able to cross over in one flight. We
hope to schedule things so there is maximum cross over for all students (only
one debate division per student though)...again, we need to see about when
rooms are free.

WEBSTER INDIVIDUAL EVENTS TOURNAMENT--GATEWAY SWING--November 2, 1997

Tom Preston has agreed, since his Gateway tournament will be a two day
tournament, to swing with us. We will have a Sunday IE tournament on the
Webster campus the weekend of the Gateway. All 11 AFA ies will be offered in
a two flight schedule to allow for early departure that afternoon. We hope
this makes an already great tournament (the Gateway) even more attractive
for ie programs. As well, this lets your CEDA/NDT debaters who do ies to have
an ie tournament that weekend and still enjoy the excellent competition at
the Gateway.

I will be leaving my office this weekend, but not moving to St. Louis until
mid-June. For any inquiries about these tournaments or anything else, please
call me at home after this Sunday (May 18). That number is 318-474-8140. We
have enjoyed being at McNeese for the past four years, and look forward to
being back in Missouri. Hope to see you all on the Webster campus for one or
both of our tournaments this coming year!
