eDebate listserv is coming

Just to be ready, just in case....

The University of Vermont Listserv office is now in the process of creating
a new listserv. It will soon be there if we need it.

1. It is called eDebate. I am tired of "L". Most of the good L names are
taken. Hyphens bug me.

2. It can support importing the subscriber lists from both listservs.

3. It will have a searchable web based archive file for all postings. To
see how the searchable web postings work, Look at:
http://list.uvm.edu/archives

4. I have asked for one list, not two. I can ask for two, but it seems that
the experience of trying to have several lists both in and out of debate
and the arguments people have made indicates that this would not be that
useful. My goal now is to stop getting 2 of every message.

5. The list will be about DEBATE (content limitation) but will not be
moderated and will be open to the public. Commercial information or
advertising is welcome as long as it is directly connected to debates and
debating.

6. The list will remain here at UVM in the long term. I've got tenure and
I'm not going anywhere soon. If I should die suddenly they would just
appoint a new Lawrence Professor of Forensics in a tenure track position,
and I assume that person would become the listowner. It would be secure and
archived for the long term.

Now, if we don't want to use it, I can tell them to not set it up or turn
it off. As it is, it will be available within two or three days. If you
want one listserv for all of team topic debate, here it is.

What should I do now?
