It was written:
"
colleagues in the ivory towers
often raise their noses at our efforts to reach
out to non-traditional (read working class)
students. CC's exist to serve the "economically
challenged," and CC debate programs reflect
this purpose as well."

And a good mission it is indeed! Community colleges are an excellent
bridge between high schools and colleges as well. We understand all of the
hard work you do at cc's (I know many who teach five or six courses), we
don't thumb out noses at your efforts to attract working class students,
and we value the variety and diversity that you bring to the activity.

Hurrah to your students who choose to earn the associate's degree in whatever.
As well, hurrah to your students who desire to continue to obtain a four
year degree after transfer to a four year institution as juniors!

Thanks to all cc's for their fine efforts at providing this bridge! I
agree that cc's don't have the necessity of Ph.D. directors as do research
universities [although as may be detected I would not consider that a
detriment, either].

When we at the four year research institutions get students from cc's with
or without forensics experience, may we strive to make their opportunities
in our programs more solid by having senior, tenured, and Ph.D. professors
lead them so that our programs can have the ability and support and
credibility across campus to continue to provide excellent opportunities
for all students, including any students, community college transfer or
not, from working class backgrounds!

(hey that feeds my other arguments on inclusiveness of students!).

What do the cc's think about tenure? Inform me--does it exist at cc's?
What is required for it? Do you think that at a cc, although most students
are there for a shorter time, tenure is desirable for a DOF, aside from the
Ph.D. issue?
