Derek and solvencySteve and so pro part three -Reply
Evidence serves to help assist us develop a basis for a belief.
Evidence serves an inferential function. Argument inheres in the
world of the probable. It cannot provide certainty or proof.
One of Josh's examples is of Syria and Pakistan developing missile
systems at the same time may risk some bad and unanticipated effects.
He says that ev on the two nations separately is insufficient as
"proof." Correct, but so is testimonial evidence on both nations at
the same time. Even if there is an author who advocates multiple
actions at the same time, that advocacy does not prove anything.
When separated from the notion of proof, the question of solvency and
"advocacy" in the literature becomes much more complex.
