new journal (fwd)

Advanced apologies if everyone already received this posting from
Professor Trapp, but I only received an error copy from the listserv
computer and suspect that for some reason it was not distributed to
everyone on the list.

p.s. PLEASE REMEMBER, if you will not have an account or will not be
checking your account over the summer to unsubscribe or postpone your
setting. I know that computers seem magical, but the listserv is a moron
and will simply keep sending me error messages for every message times
every person it can't deliver them too. To do this:

Send the following message to LISTSERV@cornell.edu (not CEDA-L), FROM THE
ACCOUNT you susbcribed with, with ONLY the following text:

     Unsubscribe CEDA-L

THANKS.

I agree with Steve Hunt about the need for a new
forensics journal, but I would state the case even more
strongly. A new journal would, I fear, cause a
decrease in the quality of scholarship in forensics.

I currently review work for three forensic-related
journals: ARGUMENTATION & ADVOCACY, CEDA YEARBOOK, and
THE FORENSIC. Not only do all three have to scramble
to find acceptable stuff, but because of the paucity of
really good work that is submitted, I believe that all
three journals are forced to accept material that they
would not accept given the kind of standards that the
editors would prefer to apply. Adding another journal
would, in my opinion, only dilute the quality of our
     publications.

While I agree that David Berube has every right to
initiate a journal as a private venture, I am not an
enthusiastic supporter of such privately owned
journals. If we do need additional space for published
material, I would much prefer to see it sponsored by a
professional, academic organization such as CEDA. If
such a need existed, I would prefer to see CEDA
YEARBOOK expanded to a semi-annual publication.
