Whoa there, CEDA East Welcome Wagon
Some people apparently don't care for my posting encouraging people to talk
to Prof. Frank about the Duquesne program doing CEDA as opposed to NDT.
As the elected representative of my region I have taken it as a goal to
attract and support new programs. Univ. of Maine, Ithaca, Binghamton, and
other student run programs have benefited from our active policy of support.
We not only persuade them to do CEDA, we help them train, waive their fees,
and then let them stay with our students at tournaments. It is a very active
program.
CEDA President Doug Duke has asked David Berube to put together an
instructional program and packet for new coaches. Glen Strickland and I are
working towards a debate BBS where any student or coach could download
instructional materials and other items.
I am involved in a project to network every high school in America with a
debate team to every CEDA program in America so that they can start working
together.
This is no more a threat to NDT than is my outstretched hand of friendship to
Prof. Frank.
In my posting and in my conversations with potential new schools I say no
evil thing about NDT.
Each school makes their own choice based on their needs. In my case, there
really isn't any New England NDT for me. In CEDA, I have a lot of regional
travel opportunities for my younger debaters. However, I will confess that in
contacting new programs I tell them about what we do but I do not actively
inform them about NDT and what it offers. I can't do it all. I wish I had the
time and energy to be a multi-format good will ambassador for debate (and
maybe that should be my next goal...sounds like fun), but I do not. I also
coach CEDA.
