Clipping Cards
How to 'handle it' depends on your perspective on what constituted an
argument in the round. If you believe the tag line is the argument and
the cards are just support for the argument than the other team gets to
point out there is no warrant read for the claim - but that doesn't stop
the other team from reading extension cards in the 1AR/2AR. And if
nobody says anything about it than the team gets full weight of the tag.
On the other hand if you think the card and tag constitute the argument
than a clipped card means you might not evaluate the argument to the
full weight of the tag line but only give it as much weight as what
sentences were read.
Lastly, if someone points it out and makes arguments about why clipping
cards is unethical/a voting issue/etc than I suppose you just wait to
see how those arguments turn out and whose on top in the 2AR/2NR. Of
course, if you like to intervene a lot then you probably will and you'll
have to listen to someone scream at you 'They didn't make an argument in
the round that I clipped cards why are you screwing me!!!' and I'm sure
that will be a nice addition to your nationals experience.
