Re: Registrar certification
While I agree with the heart of Bennett's post below, there is one
assumption that is not necessarily true--that about DOF's
circumventing the guidelines. Certainly that has happened, and it
saddens me that a small number of members of my profession have in
the past intentionally violated rules such as eligibility, but the
most publicized example in recent years comes from a program with NO
person in a faculty or staff "director of forensics" position.
I have a great deal of respect and sympathy for student-run or alumni-
run programs. I'd rather see them than no program at all to benefit
students. The vast majority of such programs play by the rules. But
there are dangers inherent when there is no one officially "in
charge" of a program who is accountable to the college/university in
any significant way. Just a thought.
