RE: NO Neo-Nazis on Usenet!



Tom and Matt make some excellent points about allowing repugnant discourse
as both a way to bring their idiocy to light and to strengthen our own
right to speech. I agree totally. But I still haven't gotten a response
(save for one from Mike Ross... thanks, mike) to my initial query. This
advocacy of allowing the Neo-Nazis their forum seems to me completely
contradictory to the thread we had going several weeks ago about
repugnancy in debate (primarily racism). Those of us who said "let the
racist arguments be made & let the other teams make them look like idiots"
had our inboxes inundated with "What the Hell are you thinking?" and "Are
you on crack?" posts from a great number of those in the community. Why is
it that it's ok in real life, but not in debate if this is, indeed the
case? This seems like a flagrant double standard that needs to be
addressed.
