Re: Support For Historically Black Colleges Tournament
Russ brings out some interesting concerns -- ones that I have not only felt for
a long time, but have dealt with. As the DOF at an HBCU for eight years, I can
tell you that it will take more than a financial grant from CEDA to get things
rolling in that specific community. Please don't misunderstand -- a grant is
certainly a step in the right direction.
The real question is whether we, as a predominantly white male community, are
willing to confront many of our own misconceptions and prejudices to examine
the problem from another perspective. Sadly, my experience with the community
has been less than encouraging. We don't like confronting what makes us
uncomfortable.
