Noted as a joke. However, people use this kind of fiat talk too much.
Fiat is an argumentative principle necessary whenever you are evaluating a
potential action in terms of its future consequences. You have to imagine
what national health insurance would be like in order to decide if we
should have it. There is no "power" at work here. See my 1976 article on
international fiat (older editions of Advanced Debate) or my CStates
convention paper from 1980 eneitled "Fantasy and Reality." I am trying to
load both these onto Debate Central.
