Ever wonder why more good people don't run for office in our organization?
Reactions like this are one reason.

I have already been called many worse things than this in the last few
months
by email messages from people who do not know me and have never met me. I am
a racist, an idiot, a sexist, a violent criminal, and now a rock smoker. I
wonder how these people knew any of this. I have also been called a fat
white
balding male, but they got lucky on that one ... it is accurate.

I honestly considered resigning as President recently based on the kind of
hateful messages I was receiving. I have decided not to.

Tuna,

Just wanted to send you Kudos for putting up with all the crap that this
community can deposit at your feet. Please do not despair, but keep your
chin up and keep fighting the good fight. Remember, the journey begins with
that single step and rarely can anyone say where it will end.

The actions and words of your tenure as CEDA President are the steps sending
this community on a journey that will hopefully end in a forum which values
all forms of debate and functions in a way that encourages participation for
as many students as possible at all experience levels. We must look to avoid
the Ivory Tower trap of becoming so specialized that no one in administrative
authority can recognize the value of what we do. The actions of your
administration already speak volumes about your commitment to making the
activity more accessable and enjoyable for all of its participants.

Just wanted to let you know that even if we disagree on questions of theory
or procedure, I admire the dedication you have to this activity and I
appreciate the countless hours of work you have spent trying to encourage an
open and unified debate community. Without the sweat and effort of yourself
and those who proceeded you, this activity, which we all enjoy, would be
less than what it is. Next time you feel like resigning, remember there are
alot of us pulling for your administration.

You don't often get to hear the good comments, and in this forum people are
even more critical, but let me be the first to say that you are doing a great
job. Keep up the good work!! Alot of people are depending on you, and I
know that you won't let us down.
