Skarb's question and ENMU

Skarb asks a queestion about why ENMU would be upset at getting a round
robin bid. To explain why it was all an issue with me, I'll answer.

The South Carolina Round Robin, because of great promotion by Dr,
Berube, and a good timing has become a somewhat of an event to generate
political capital for the upcoming fall season. I think a bid helps
teams establish a name early. The circuit is affected by such
perceptions, like power rankings and things, at least some are.

Because I believed that our chances of getting a bid were low for
various reasons, I was glad that we were not sending in a bid. For
budget reasons we could not attend South Carolina anyway. I was told
that when I got here, and we made a decision not to apply for a bid for
that rason, and I opposed a bid for others (not wanting a negative if we
didn't make it).

An unidentified individual, who may be a former ENMU student, sent in a
bid, for reasons unknown. This was accepted as an official bid and we
were ranked. The caoching staff didn't do a proper application.

The result, for whatever reason, made us an alternate, below some
schools we had hoped we were perceived higher than, based on previous
results and inactivity of some bid receivers.

I favored ignoring the result, thinking it would blow over, but one of
my collegues didn't feel that way, and the issue became public. I
attempted to head off some criticism once I found out, but didn't do that
great of a job. I think the process should be open, or verified, and Dr.
Berube has listened to my concerns, and will certainly make his own
decisions about what is to be done. Its his round robin.

I congratulate those chosen, and just as I coached there last year, so
I hope to do so again. But not this year.

My references to us attending UNI were not slanders to SC or its event,
simply a statement of fact long decided before bids went out. Hope that
sets the record straight, serves as an apology if people were hurt, and
ends the issue from me :)

  Thanks Bear!
