PLEASE contact Berube if you wish to participate in the work of the
CEDA Professionalism Committee.
VISION - The committee is collecting, collating, and designing
information in statistical and narrative form to assist directors in
promoting themselves and their programs. We are open to any
suggested direction for future research.
BENEFITS - The results of this committee will be posted on the CEDA
Web site and will be published. It is an excellent opportunity to
receive joint publishing credits toward promotion and tenure.
RESERVATION - We want people who are willing to meet deadlines and
complete the assignments.

UPCOMING PROJECTS -
1. Collected promotion materials on the value of debate in the
curriculum of higher education (Simerly)
2. IMPACT OF TOURNAMENTS ON LOCAL ECONOMIES, PART2 (Berube, Simerly &
West).
3. STATE OF DEBATE 1997. A report on directors, support personnel,
operating budgets, financial assistance for debaters and support
personnel associated with the top 50 programs in 1997 (Berube)
4. PROGRAM ATTRITION AND PARTICIPATION REPORT (Berube) A. sample
includes programs which stopped paying dues within the last two (2)
years yet paid dues more than half the time during the previous seven (7) years. Also included will be programs at risk
which will include programs who participated in fewer than six (6) tournaments during the last two (2) years.
B. surveys are a seven (7) question Lichert scale with an eighth open
question.
5. RESOURCES REPORT (Berube) A. submit lists of relevant factors which committee will reduce; B. narrative with executive summary will be produced.
C. correlate with Rogers' data; D. annual resources data collected at NATIONALS.
4. FUTURE ALUMNI REPORT (West) A. at NATIONALS, question graduating students about willingness and likelihood to be contributing alumni to the colleges and
universities at which they debated as undergraduates. B. report findings as a program budget resource document.
