Re: THE TENURE ISSUE
The tenure issue has been addressed by the Professionalism Committee
(I chair it). We are posting on the CEDA - Web page a link to the
products of this committee.
Three items will soon be posted.
1. A TENURE AND PROMOTION DOCUMENT. We read and reread the Roost
document and found it impressive. We changed a few things to make it
more CEDA friendly, e.g., outlets for publication. Personally, I
used the document to secure T&P at South Carolina. I suggest you
look at it. Furthermore, we need workshops on T&P for young coaches.
Before you take a job, it is imperative you review the extant T&P
document for the unit you are thinking of joining. While negotiating
employment, you might want to make sure that the Roost document is
appended as a support document to your T&P file and negotiate this in
advance. Finally, I suggest we set up a workshop at the upcoming NCA
or next year's. We would examine this issue and offer advice.
Instead of dozens of programs which no one seems particularly
interested in attending, this type of panel would be useful.
2. MERIT PAY DOCUMENT. This document is designed to be shared with
departmental committees and chairpersons. It describes the
procedures which can be used for alloting merit pay.
3. IMPACT OF TOURNAMENTS ON LOCAL ECONOMIES REPORT, PART 1. This
document is a work in progress. Part 1 examined three tournaments:
South Carolina, SIU and Nats. It is useful because it shows some
relationship between tournaments and local economies. An update is
being planned and will include tournaments at: MTSU, Alabama, Emporia
and UNLV.
AN ADDENDUM - We must learn to promote our programs. Chairpersons
and deans aren't going to see the light unless we switch it on. That
is the mandate of this committee.
Toiling for a better world! Live the glory!
