Harris and Counterplans

The answers to the questions that Sean posed.

1. It does not matter that the disad is necessary for the competition. The
counterplan still competes. What in the world makes it possible to say
it competes so dissalow it. This is hardly a theoretical justification
for removal from consideration of the exclusion counterplan. In fact, it
   admits that the counterplan competes.
2. A COUNTERPLAN THAT DOES THE PLAN MINUS X IS A DIFFERENT PLAN!!!! It may
contain substantial similarities but it is different. You can tell it is
different because it competes with the plan. The "argument" is just a
whine without a warrant. If the affirmative did not want to be faced with
the counterplan why do they have plan planks that are not intrinsic to
the advantage or solvency????? In my mind, affirmatives that get beaten
by exclusion counterplans should finish the round by thanking the negative
for pointing out the errors in plan construction.

Anyway.....These are not arguments.....both are traditions handed down like
the whole concept of "artificial competition" as sort of a cosmic get out
of jail free card. Todd told BJ to constantly say "they are taking our plan"
not because it makes any sense theoretically, but rather because it is one
of those tug at the heart strings baseless appeals to fairness....The reason
it works is because back in the day we were all told that there were certain
unchangeable truths in debate.......You will lose if you run artificial
counterplans (cant you see debate Moses with the tablet)......Truth is
artificial competition is a catch phrase that covers any time you have no
other good answer to a counterplan and want to make an emotional appeal to
win. Do not believe everything you were taught......Some rules make no
sense! Josh
