UNI Dates
UNI will again be on its traditional weekend -- second-to-last weekend of
September. Registration will be Friday, September 19. Prelims will be
Saturday and Sunday. Elims will be Monday the 22nd.
We are advertising 8 prelims in open (we feel more rounds are necessary
early in the year), with most likely 5 elim rounds in open (clearing all
teams 5-3 or better, up to 32). We will have a second division called
"Junior Varsity" for those less experienced debaters. We will plan on
8 prelims in JV and have an appropriate number of elims to clear all
teams 5-3 or better. Unless there is a significant uprising, we don't
plan on having a Novice division due to the low number of entries in that
division in the recent past.
UNFORTUNATELY, the Waterloo Holiday Inn inadvertently booked a convention
for this weekend -- thus, we will have to revert to using other lodging
facilities, and to having elims on campus. We have already tentatively
booked the Waterloo Holiday Inn, and adjacent Convention Center, for the
1998 tournament, so this should be a one-time deviation.
In addition to policy debate, we also have an IE tournament the same
weekend that offers all eleven AFA events -- IE competition is held on
Saturday the 20th.
Invitations will be mailed around mid-July. If you need additional
information at this time, feel free to let me know. Thanks.
