Re: enrollment and eligibility
Allow me to correct my correction. Perhaps I was a bit vague, but Sherman
from Berkeley was kind of enough to clarify the issue, and I will repeat
here. CA law _does_ allow the registrar to say whether or not someone is
enrolled, but they cannot provide any information beyond that (credits,
gpa, etc.). As Sherman put it, it is a "Yes" or "No" to the question: Is
s/he currently a student at the university?"
If you're at all curious about how tight-lipped the law really is, here's
an example: Here, two years ago, a senior faculty member with long
standing tenure was demoted, without serious union resistance, for
releasing confidential student information. And I thought only
axe-murderers and child molesters were unprotected by tenure.
