Advertising on CEDA-L

Mike Korok mentioned a concern about commercial information being posted on
CEDA-L.

Having posted information about the National Debate Institute earlier, I
wanted to clarify its status.

The National Debate Institute has been run by the University of Vermont for
the last 12 years. It is a program wholly owned and operated by the
University. By University directive it may not be a profit generating entity.
All checks are made payable to the University. Salary of University employees
who work at NDI must meet regular guidelines. The proceeds of the program are
not allowed to fund the UVM debate team.

NDI recently received a $4000 grant from Phillips Petroleum and the NFL to
distribute scholarships to needy high school students. NDI itself has
committeed over $3000 in scholarship aid to college students coming to the
CEDA workshop.

We now have over 50 students, with about 10 more in the pipeline. I have will
be announcing some new faculty members and attendees soon. I hope that Mr.
Korcok will be able to drop in on us.
