Speed

I was once told that as you get older you go slower in debate! Now I was nowhere near slow when I ended my career, but the last round Lil Foote and I had was
very slow after the 2ac. If you look around the older and better teams are beginning to slow down. This is a trend that has taken place in Ndt, and is beginning to take place in Ceda. The final round at Nationals is around the average
pace for a good comprehensible round. I had 8 final round appearances over the course of the year, and only two of them were fast on the border of being
ridiculous. Blake Diaz is a prime example or Biz Repkoe for that matter, of the younger generation of Ceda slowing down and making fewer smarter arguments.

Don't get me wrong, I like to rock-n-roll, and watch a round with some pace, buthaving just finished my career, and competing on the national circuit for the
last four years, DEBATE HAS GOTTEN SLOWER! It seems to me that these arguments
and critiques about speed are (just to tease my elders) from an old buffaloes
perspective. These hypothetical lightning wars occur mainly between young teams
fresh out of highschool, and the few raging bulls (testosterone junkies) like
myself and Baby joe. The norm is towards slower, more analytical debates, with longer cards, and more warrants for the claims being made. I want to thank
Kierran Riggenberger from UMKC for harrassing me so much about reading short
blippy cards with no intellectual value. I probably wouldn't have beat him if hhe hadn't picked on me so much!

Not to waste anymore of your time, I just think this thread is a witch hunt, for which there are no witches. Debate will always be fast, but the massive spew of the late 80's and early 90's in gone.
