Dear Isaac:
After reading your posting, I re-read my posting re: wrestling and do not
see either 1) an attempt on my part to discuss wrestling as if I were an
authority nor 2) the effort to slam the sport with impunity. MAJORITY was
your word --- not mine. As someone who has never competed in men's sports, I
simply noted that I have more than once had the experience . . . . An
observation --- not a statement of fact.
OF COURSE, those firsthand experiences of mine are not representative of the
manner in which training for the entire sport of high school and collegiate
wrestling is conducted --- no more than it is fair to say that the examples
of unattended-to extreme injury, overtraining and other abuses that have
been paraded about regarding gymnastics are representative of the way in
which all female gymnasts are trained.
Your vehement defense of wrestling is gratifying, for it supports the
reality that bad and the ugly always receive our attention over the good.
