What Kerri did will be remembered for a long time. It will be one of
the defining moments not only of these Olympics, but of _the_
Olympics. The spirit of teamwork and dedication is rarely embodied so
perfectly.
Some point out that the U.S. would have won without Kerri's second
vault, but at the time, no one knew that. She sacrificed herself for
her team and her country.
Some would like to say that Bela put pressure on Kerri to attempt the
second vault. What if she had not vaulted, and the gold had been
lost? The regret would have been lifelong. Bela's call from the
sidelines was "You can do it!" A call of confidence, precisely what
an 18 year old young lady needed to bolster her after it seemed as if
the team were jinxed.
I am not an emotional individual, but Kerri's actions caused me to
swallow hard and blink away tears. Perhaps will I stand a little taller
and strive a little harder because of her.
Please pardon the outburst.
Big Dave
